About the Internship

OMNIDYA TECH LLP, a technology company based in Ahmedabad specializing in AI-driven dashcams and subsidiary of an established US firm, is seeking a Mechanical Design Intern for hands-on involvement in new product research and development. This internship emphasizes active contribution to product hardware development including mechanical design, enclosure creation, multiple design iterations, and rapid prototyping. The role requires close collaboration with electronics and hardware teams and goes beyond simple drafting duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Create 3D CAD models and assemblies using SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or advanced 3D AutoCAD.
• Design various mechanical components like plastic enclosures, mounting brackets, PCB mounting systems, and support structures.
• Prepare detailed manufacturing drawings including dimensions and tolerance specifications.
• Develop mechanical Bills of Materials (BOM) for designs.
• Translate conceptual sketches into 3D models while performing iterative design improvements considering electronic integration, fitment, cable routing, and assembly feasibility.
• Conduct foundational design validations such as interference checks, assembly simulations, and tolerance management.
• Handle rapid prototyping tasks including STL file preparation for 3D printing, deciding print parameters, printer operation, post-processing activities like support removal and surface finishing, and fitment testing.
• Maintain comprehensive revision tracking of prototype versions.
• Apply fundamental Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles such as proper wall thickness, fillets, ribs, draft angles, fastening strategies, and avoidance of non-manufacturable shapes, distinguishing between prototype and production designs.

Required Skills

• Proficient use of SolidWorks or Fusion 360, with strong 3D modeling skills if AutoCAD is used.
• Experience with parametric 3D modeling and assembly creation.
• Basic understanding of mechanical engineering concepts.
• Knowledge of 3D printing fundamentals and manufacturing drawing preparation.

Preferred Skills

• Experience designing electronic product enclosures.
• Good understanding of mechanical tolerances and fits.
• Familiarity with fasteners and joining methods.
• Exposure to thermal design basics and hardware projects such as robotics, drones, or automotive applications.
• Basic knowledge of sheet metal work, CNC design processes, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools.

Internship Details

• Internship duration: 6 months minimum.
• Start date flexibility between October 16, 2026, and November 20, 2026.
• Potential for a Pre-Placement Offer (PPO) as a full-time Mechanical Design Engineer upon exceptional performance during internship.

Compensation and Perks

• Monthly stipend ranging from ₹10,001 to ₹20,000, comprising a fixed pay between ₹10,000 and ₹15,000 and a variable incentive from ₹1 to ₹5,000.
