About the internship
About the Internship
Join Applied Generative Solutions as a Data Science Intern and deepen your expertise in statistical modeling and machine learning. This role focuses on uncovering intricate patterns within large-scale sales and marketing datasets using sophisticated machine learning and statistical approaches.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with senior data scientists to analyze and interpret complex data.
- Create predictive models and algorithms to extract meaningful insights.
- Support the development and execution of data-driven strategies.
- Perform comprehensive data analyses to detect trends and patterns.
- Effectively communicate insights and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
- Investigate new tools and methodologies to enhance data analysis workflows.
- Contribute innovative ideas and problem-solving skills to advance company data science initiatives.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Proficiency in supervised and survival modeling techniques, including churn risk assessment.
- Experience with gradient-boosted trees (such as LightGBM or XGBoost) and logistic regression, handling class imbalances through stratified sampling and class weights, along with calibration curves and segment-level calibration.
- Understanding of SHAP values and their applications.
- Familiarity with survival analysis methods like Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox proportional hazards models.
- Expertise in temporal validation, leakage audits, and population stability index for dataset drift evaluation.
- Knowledge of hierarchical and causal modeling approaches.
- Time-series analysis and anomaly detection methodologies, including KPI anomaly and forecasting.
- Seasonal decomposition techniques such as STL and Prophet, rolling regression or Kalman filtering, residual z-scoring, and autocorrelation/stationarity tests.
- Hierarchical time-series forecasting with reconciliation across multiple levels such as market, region, and global.
- Application of decomposition and unsupervised methods, including driver ranking, route mix, and market clustering.
- Clustering techniques (k-means with silhouette and gap statistics), PCA, and Mahalanobis distance for outlier and drift detection.
- Use of association rules and item-to-item recommenders for cross-selling, plus Monte Carlo simulations for ROI ranking under uncertainty.
Additional Requirements
- Business-oriented exploratory data analysis skills to differentiate between seasonality and trends, and to understand correlation versus causation.
- Predictive modeling capabilities including seasonal forecasting, calibrated classification, customer-value modeling, feature ablation, and precision at business-relevant capacities.
- Ability to quickly grasp or apply advanced statistical techniques such as Kaplan–Meier estimation, Cox or discrete-time survival models, and hierarchical or mixed-effects models for explaining customer behaviors and outcomes with proper uncertainty treatment.
- Causal decision intelligence skills encompassing randomized experiment design, propensity-score applications, doubly robust estimation, uplift modeling, assumption testing prior to recommending interventions, and impact evaluation.
- Strong SQL expertise to verify customer data quality, including identity validation, table granularity, joins, duplicates, missing values, cancellations, and returns before model dataset creation.
Who Can Apply
Candidates eligible to apply must:
- Be available to perform remote work throughout the internship duration.
- Be able to commence the internship between September 27, 2026, and November 1, 2026.
- Commit to a four-month internship period.
- Possess relevant skills and genuine interest in the data science field.
