Established in 1856, it is one of the oldest educational institutions in North India. The college has a rich history, with its origins as a Sanskrit Vidyalaya and later being named after Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia. It was the first college in the region to offer French language courses and was also one of the first to become co-educational.
