The college was founded by the Church of South India, Coimbatore Diocesan Council with a mission to provide technical education to tribal and rural communities. It is the only engineering institution in the Nilgiris district and has a distinctiveness in the region due to its public-private partnership initiatives for the upliftment of tribal communities.
