Intermediate Project Manager

About the Role

CohesionX is actively recruiting a skilled and analytical Intermediate Project Manager to lead the delivery of intricate AI and software initiatives. As our platforms expand and our client base grows, effective project management becomes crucial to ensure timely, efficient delivery aligned with commercial goals.

This position involves complete ownership of the project lifecycle, acting as the nexus between technical execution and business strategy. The manager will collaborate closely with data scientists, AI engineers, and senior stakeholders to convert ambitious technical objectives into clear, actionable plans. Responsibilities include managing dependencies, reducing risks, and guaranteeing that AI-driven products meet high standards of performance and quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee full project planning and delivery, ensuring projects meet scope, deadlines, and quality expectations.
• Serve as the main liaison between AI/engineering teams and business leaders to align product vision and specifications.
• Handle project resource allocation, timelines, and budgets while proactively addressing potential obstacles or risks.
• Champion the use of Agile or hybrid project management approaches to accelerate delivery and improve quality.
• Lead important project meetings such as sprint planning and stakeholder reviews.
• Coordinate with technical heads to manage technical debt, infrastructure dependencies, and deployment timelines.
• Support ongoing enhancements to internal project governance frameworks and operational processes.

Candidate Requirements

• University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Three to five years of proven project management experience, ideally in software development or AI/Data Science contexts.
• Deep understanding of technical topics to effectively engage with engineers and data scientists.
• Outstanding organizational, leadership, and communication abilities with experience managing diverse stakeholders.
• Strategic thinking paired with meticulous attention to execution details.
• Strong passion for artificial intelligence and its application to real-world business challenges.
• Ability to work full-time onsite at CohesionX's Pretoria office; candidates must be local to Gauteng or ready to relocate before starting.

Preferred Additional Skills

• Certification in Project Management methodologies such as PMP, PRINCE2, or Agile/Scrum.
• Familiarity with project management software like Jira and Confluence.
• Technical knowledge in Python, SQL, API integration, or related technologies.
• Experience in fast-paced startup or scale-up environments.
