Role Overview

As the Director of Analytics Engineering, you will lead the strategy, design, and management of the data infrastructure that supports key business functions across 1Password, including Marketing, Finance, Product, and Analytics teams. Your leadership will guide data modeling, governance, documentation, testing, and availability, particularly as they support AI-driven initiatives. This position reports to the VP of Data Analytics and is open remotely for candidates in Canada and the US.

Our Finance team currently leverages AI to enhance productivity and decision-making by automating contextual summarization, verifying assumptions, and translating complex data into clear executive insights. We integrate AI thoughtfully, maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and control to enhance strategic focus and business results.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the vision and roadmap for analytics engineering, including data models, semantic layers, BI tools, and pipeline infrastructure.
• Recruit, lead, and nurture a high-performing team of analytics engineers, defining career paths, expectations, and evaluation processes.
• Establish and maintain standards for data modeling, testing, documentation, code reviews, deployment, and data quality assurance.
• Engage directly with technical work such as complex dbt model reviews, SQL optimization, and pipeline troubleshooting when required.
• Act as a senior advisor on data modeling and metric governance to ensure consistent, trusted, and well-documented definitions.
• Collaborate closely with leaders across multiple disciplines to translate business priorities into a coherent data platform strategy.
• Build governed and reliable data foundations to support company-wide decision-making and AI initiatives, including generative BI experiences.

Qualifications

• Extensive background in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data architecture with proven leadership experience.
• Proficiency in SQL and advanced dbt capabilities, including data modeling, incremental processing, testing, documentation, and multi-environment deployment.
• Strong expertise in dimensional modeling methodologies such as Kimball or star schema applied to complex B2B SaaS settings.
• Experience with cloud data warehouses like Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift, including performance, cost, and scalability considerations.
• Knowledge in defining semantic layers and trusted metrics across an organization.
• Ability to transform complex business goals into clear, actionable data platform roadmaps and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
• Preferred experience with CI/CD, orchestration tools including Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect, and AI-assisted analytics workflows.

Compensation and Benefits

For candidates based in the USA, the position offers an annual salary ranging from $204,000 to $306,000 USD, along with benefits such as health coverage, dental, 401k, paid time off, equity grants, and incentive programs. For Canadian candidates, the salary range is CAD 200,000 to 300,000, with similar benefits including RRSP contributions.
