Role Overview
The Community Housing Support Worker role based in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, supports residents of the Todd Street transitional housing program. This program provides not only shelter but also safety, stability, and dignity to residents coping with trauma, homelessness, and other complex challenges. The worker will foster an environment where residents feel respected, welcomed, and supported without judgment.
This full-time permanent position is aligned with SCHADS Level 4 conditions and involves tenancy management, welfare checks, resident engagement, safety oversight, and maintenance coordination to ensure a calm, safe, and culturally sensitive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain warm, professional relationships with residents
- Conduct welcoming and thorough inductions for new tenants
- Engage regularly in welfare checks and meaningful communication
- Manage tenancy requirements such as inspections, rent records, leases, and maintenance
- Address urgent issues, including non-payment of rent, safety concerns, and immediate resident needs
- Maintain accurate tenant records and update data per organizational standards
- Arrange groundskeeping and maintenance tasks with contractors and onsite staff
- Prepare housing units for new tenants and complete final inspections
- Report incidents and potential risks following policy protocols
- Promote a safe, calm, and culturally respectful environment for all residents
Candidate Profile
- Previous experience in tenancy management or community housing support
- Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse linguistic backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships
- Competent in common computer applications
- Possession of a Diploma in Community Services or equivalent relevant experience
- Demonstrated reliability, integrity, and alignment with organizational values
- Possession of a Northern Territory Working with Children Check
- Current valid Northern Territory Driver's License
Remuneration and Benefits
- Hourly rate between $51.37 and $55.28 plus superannuation, varying with experience and qualifications
- Conditions aligned with SCHADS Level 4 and above Award entitlements (up to 10%)
- Remote Area Housing Benefit up to $31,800 tax-free
- Entertainment Benefit up to $2,650 tax-free
- Relocation assistance up to $5,000 for qualified candidates
