How alerts and notifications work

We can reach you in four places: the bell inside Broxer, your email inbox, Telegram, and WhatsApp. This page explains what each one is for, what is free, and what you need to do to get the most out of them. It takes about four minutes to read.

You’re not signed in, so this page covers both job seekers and employers. Sign in and it will show only the parts that apply to your account.

Two different things called “alerts”

People use the word for two separate things, and it helps to keep them apart.

Notifications

Something happened that involves you: a recruiter messaged you, an interview was scheduled, a document arrived. These are always about a real event, and they only go out when that event happens.

Everyone gets these, job seekers and employers alike.

Job alerts — job seekers

You saved a search — say “PHP jobs in Pune” — and we check for new matches and send you the ones worth seeing, daily or weekly.

These are for job seekers. Employers get notifications, not job alerts.

The four places we can reach you

Where Best for Cost
🔔 In-app bell Everything. It is the complete record of what happened. Always free
✉️ Email Detail you want to keep or come back to: job digests, documents, receipts. Always free
✈️ Telegram Instant nudges on your phone without using up anything. Free
🟢 WhatsApp The urgent few: a recruiter waiting on you, an interview about to start. Free inside your 24-hour window, otherwise 1 credit

You choose these per notification, so you can have interview invitations reach your WhatsApp while profile views stay quietly on the bell.

WhatsApp: free vs paid

This is the one part worth understanding properly, because it decides whether WhatsApp costs you anything. The rule is not ours: WhatsApp itself sets it, and it is the same for every business on WhatsApp.

Free: your 24-hour window

Whenever you send us a WhatsApp message, a 24-hour window opens. While it is open, everything we send you on WhatsApp is completely free, no matter what it is or how many messages there are. Every new message you send starts the 24 hours again.

Paid: outside the window

Once 24 hours pass with no message from you, the window closes. To reach you after that, WhatsApp only allows a pre-approved message and charges for it. So a message we send while your window is closed uses 1 WhatsApp credit.

The short version

Reply to us on WhatsApp now and then, and WhatsApp stays free. Go quiet for more than a day, and reaching you costs a credit. That is the whole rule.

Message us on WhatsApp to open your free window →

We always try the free route first. If your window is open, you get a normal free message. We only use a credit when your window is genuinely closed and there is something worth telling you about.

How WhatsApp credits work

  • 1 credit = 1 WhatsApp message sent while your free window is closed. That is the only thing credits are used for.
  • Messages sent inside your free window never use a credit, whatever they are about.
  • Credits come with your plan, or you can add a pack. They have a validity, and anything unused expires at the end of it.
  • You are only ever charged once we have confirmation the message actually went out. If it fails, you keep the credit.
  • Nothing on Broxer ever spends a WhatsApp credit without you switching WhatsApp on first.

No credits? WhatsApp still works.

You can turn WhatsApp on with no credits at all. You will simply receive messages only while your free 24-hour window is open, and nothing when it is closed. For a lot of people who message us regularly, that is all they ever need.

Email, the bell and Telegram never use credits. If you do nothing at all on this page, you still get everything by email and bell.

Setting it up

✉️ Email and 🔔 bell

Already on. Fine-tune which notifications use them in notification preferences.

✈️ Telegram free

  1. Open notification preferences or your job alerts page.
  2. Tap Connect Telegram. It opens our bot and links your account in one tap.
  3. Tick Telegram on the notifications you want it for.

🟢 WhatsApp

  1. Verify your phone number, so we can tell it is really you. Without this, WhatsApp cannot be switched on.
  2. Tick WhatsApp on the notifications you want it for.
  3. Send us a WhatsApp message to open your free 24-hour window.

Your phone is not verified yet, so WhatsApp cannot reach you.

What we send to your phone

Telegram and WhatsApp are reserved for notifications where someone is genuinely waiting on you or a deadline is coming up. We deliberately do not offer them for likes, follows, comments or profile views, because a phone full of those is a phone you end up muting.

  • New message request
  • New message in a conversation
  • A recruiter invites you to apply for a job
  • Reminders before a job invitation expires
  • You're invited to a video interview
  • Reminder to complete a video interview
  • Reminders before a video interview deadline
  • An interview is scheduled for you (confirm or decline)
  • Reminder before your scheduled interview
  • A scheduled interview is cancelled
  • You receive an offer / appointment letter
  • You receive a document (offer, appointment, experience, recommendation, certificate)
  • Your job listing paused because its application deadline passed
  • Your job listing closed automatically after 30 days
  • Warnings 3, 2 and 1 days before a listing pauses, closes or ends its extension
  • Your job listing is approved
  • Your job listing is rejected by admin
  • Your job listing has expired
  • Candidates blocked — out of interview credits
  • A candidate requests an interview extension
  • Your interview extension is granted
  • Your interview extension is declined

Everything else still reaches you on the bell and by email, exactly as before.

We group things up, and we check before we spend

If several things happen close together, we combine them into one message rather than buzzing you repeatedly. And before we use a credit, we check whether you have already seen it in the app or by email. If you have, we do not send it. You are never charged for being told something twice.

Choosing your hours

At the top of notification preferences you can set the hours and weekdays we are allowed to contact you. It covers email, Telegram and WhatsApp, in your own timezone.

  • Anything that arrives outside your hours waits until they open again.
  • Time-critical reminders, like an interview starting shortly, are skipped rather than delayed. A reminder that arrives after the event is no help.
  • The in-app bell always works, because it never interrupts you.
  • A few security messages, like a login from a new device, always come through.

Texting us for jobs — job seekers

You do not have to wait for us. Message our bot on WhatsApp or Telegram any time and it replies straight away. This is free, and it also opens your free 24-hour WhatsApp window.

Send thisAnd you get
JOBSYour latest matching jobs
JOBS php remoteA search on the spot, by keyword
ALERT php remoteSaves that as a new job alert
ALERTSYour saved alerts, each with a short code
A3Latest jobs for that one alert (any code from ALERTS)
HELPThe menu

Tip: keep two or three separate alerts with different keywords rather than one broad one. The results are much easier to scan.

Set it up, step by step

Five minutes, once. Do steps 1 and 2 and you will never pay for a WhatsApp alert.

  1. 1
Choose what reaches you where. Open notification preferences and tick the channels you want, per notification. The bell is always on; email, Telegram and WhatsApp are yours to choose. Phone channels start switched off, so nothing reaches your phone until you ask for it.
  2. 2
Connect Telegram — free, unlimited, no catch. Go to your job alerts page and press Connect Telegram. It opens the bot; press Start and you are done. This is the one step with no cost and no expiry attached to it.
  3. 3
Say hello on WhatsApp — this is what makes it free. First verify your phone number in your profile, so we know the number is yours. Open our WhatsApp and send a message → Your message opens a 24-hour free window. Everything we send you inside it costs nothing, whatever it is. Reply again any time to extend it. While you are there, try sending JOBS — it answers with your latest matches straight away.
  4. 4
Set the hours you want to be reachable. At the top of notification preferences, pick your active hours and days. We hold anything non-urgent until your window opens.
  5. 5
Optional: follow the jobs channel. A broadcast channel of new roles, separate from your personal alerts — you follow it, we never message you there, and it costs nothing. Follow Broxer Jobs on WhatsApp → It is a one-way channel, so it is not a substitute for step 3 — following it does not open your free window.

Getting the most out of alerts

Most people leave the useful parts switched off. These are the five things that actually make a difference, roughly in order of how much they help.

  1. 1. Reply to us on WhatsApp now and then. Every message you send us opens a 24-hour free window, and inside it everything we send is free — no pack needed, no limit on type. A single JOBS now and then is genuinely the cheapest way to stay reachable, and it is why the alerts page shows you a countdown.
  2. 2. Connect Telegram. It is free, unlimited, and has no window to keep open. If you only do one thing on this page, do this one — it gives you instant alerts at no cost forever.
  3. 3. Be picky about what reaches your phone. Turn the phone channels on for the few things a person is waiting on you for — a message, an interview, an offer — and leave the rest on the bell. A channel you mute because it is noisy helps nobody.
  4. 4. Set your hours. Tell us when you are willing to be contacted and we hold everything else until then. Time-critical reminders are skipped rather than delivered late, so you never get a “starts in 10 minutes” an hour after it started.
  5. 5. Keep two or three narrow job alerts, not one broad one. Separate alerts with different keywords are far easier to scan than a single alert that matches everything. And keep the filters loose: salary and experience are strict, so a job that leaves them blank will never match.

If nothing is arriving

Reaching a phone needs a few things to be true at once, and any one of them missing is silent. Work down this list in order.

  1. Is it ticked? Phone channels are off until you turn them on, per notification, in notification preferences.
  2. For WhatsApp, is your phone verified? We only message a number you have confirmed is yours.
  3. Have you ever messaged us? WhatsApp only lets us start a conversation you began. Send us one message and that is fixed permanently.
  4. Is your free window open, and do you have a pack? With no pack, we can only reach you inside the 24-hour window.
  5. For Telegram, did you press Start? Connecting from your settings opens the bot; the link only works once you send that first /start.
  6. Are you inside your own quiet hours? Non-urgent alerts wait for your window to open again.
  7. Did you already read it? If you have seen something on the bell, we do not also spend a paid WhatsApp message telling you about it.
  8. Did you ever send STOP? That switches both phone channels off until you reply RESUME.

Emails are separate: check your spam folder, and that the address on your account is the one you actually read.

Turning things off

  • One channel, one notification: untick it in notification preferences.
  • All WhatsApp: untick every WhatsApp box, or send STOP to our WhatsApp number. Either way we stop immediately.
  • All Telegram: send STOP to the bot, or disconnect it in your settings.
  • A job alert: pause or delete it on your job alerts page. Unsubscribing from one alert’s email leaves your other alerts running.

Turning WhatsApp off never costs anything and never affects your credits. Any unused credits stay in your account until their validity ends.
