Position Overview and Responsibilities
The First Helper will assist maintenance personnel and participate actively in CMC’s safety programs to promote a secure work environment. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting maintenance staff as needed
- Engaging in and upholding safety initiatives and culture
- Communicating effectively regarding production issues, concerns, and operational requirements
- Completing equipment inspection reports during each shift
- Conducting routine or minor repairs independently
- Suggesting improvements to work methods and procedures for continuous improvement
- Performing daily housekeeping duties to maintain clean work areas
- Recognizing and promptly reporting unsafe conditions
- Understanding and following start-up, shutdown, and emergency procedures
- Completing tasks assigned by Operations Support Management safely and on schedule
- Troubleshooting work-related problems using knowledge, experience, and collaboration
- Adhering to all safety protocols including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
Qualifications and Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with strong work ethic, attention to detail, and good organizational skills
- Comfort working in various environmental exposures such as extreme temperatures, chemicals, dust, fumes, loud noise, uneven surfaces, elevated areas, and confined spaces
- Basic computer proficiency
- Reliability in attendance and task completion; flexible to meet business needs
- Ability to multitask and learn quickly
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Availability to work overtime as necessary
- Willingness to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays
