Job description
Overview
We are seeking a Senior to Lead Web Engineer to develop and manage a scalable platform tailored for mobile-first HTML5 web games. This pivotal position entails end-to-end ownership of the platform layer—shaping architecture, developing SDKs, enhancing tooling, and setting performance benchmarks. The goal is to enable multiple game teams to deliver reliable products rapidly and with minimal redundancy.
Applicants at senior and leadership levels are encouraged to apply; role scope may be adjusted according to experience and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain a modular runtime and plugin system including dependency management, lifecycle, configuration, isolation, and fallback mechanisms.
- Create and enhance reusable game frameworks that codify core patterns such as state management, event handling, and configuration-driven logic, while keeping extensibility in focus.
- Define and uphold platform standards including API stability, backward compatibility, and upgrade policies.
- Develop and oversee a multi-package SDK ecosystem involving private npm registries, version control, changelogs, CI/CD pipelines, and release automation.
- Manage bundling strategies using tools like Rollup, Webpack, or Vite to optimize code splitting, tree shaking, and bundle size.
- Implement progressive release approaches such as canary deployments, compatibility checks, and automated validations across projects.
- Set and monitor platform-wide performance targets concerning bundle size, loading speed, memory consumption, and frame rate stability.
- Provide shared observability solutions including logging, telemetry, and error handling practices.
- Enhance developer productivity through detailed documentation, templates, and example implementations.
- Collaborate closely with game and compliance teams to convert frequent requirements into reusable platform features.
- Lead technical design reviews, mentor engineering staff, and drive the platform’s strategic roadmap and standards.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Game Development, or a related discipline.
- Over 6 years’ experience in web or game development within environments requiring high concurrency, such as e-commerce, social platforms, or gaming.
- Expertise in TypeScript, JavaScript, and Node.js development.
- Proven track record in building and maintaining SDKs and frameworks that serve multiple projects.
- Deep knowledge of modern build tools and systems such as Rollup, Webpack, and Vite, with a focus on performance optimization.
- Strong system design competences tailored to modular and scalable architectures with plugin and lifecycle management.
- Experience in profiling and enhancing performance in mobile web contexts.
- Capacity to contribute to technical leadership, including architecture discussions, code reviewing, mentoring, and strategic engineering decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with web-based game engines like Cocos Creator, Phaser, or PixiJS.
- Familiarity with iframe integration methods and different hosting environments.
- Background in WebGL performance tuning and managing asset pipelines.
