Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Rake Manager to join our team in a full-time role based in Howrah, Kolkata. This position operates entirely onboard assigned mail and express trains, requiring frequent travel. The role involves managing sales and operational activities during train journeys without any office or station-based work.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage sales targets by driving sales throughout the journey, monitoring vendor-wise sales, and reporting performance to the Yard Manager.
- Arrange and oversee vendors onboard, ensuring proper deployment, briefing, and performance management.
- Maintain comprehensive operational control onboard, coordinating with vendors, handling stock and sales issues, and collaborating with the Yard Manager and central team.
- Handle all sales cash with strict accuracy, ensuring reconciliation, proper record-keeping, and timely deposit or handover without discrepancies.
- Manage stock by monitoring opening and closing balances, consumption, wastage, and maintaining accurate reconciliation.
- Engage with passengers to understand their needs, collect feedback, manage complaints, and identify opportunities to enhance sales.
- Coordinate professionally with railway personnel such as Train Officers, TTE/TT, RPF, and others regarding onboard operations and inspections.
- Conduct onboard audits to assess passenger buying behaviors, vendor performance, stock and cash accuracy, service quality, and operational gaps.
- Maintain vendor hygiene and product quality, enforcing company SOPs to ensure high standards during the journey.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports after each journey covering sales, cash, stock, vendor attendance, passenger feedback, and operational issues.
Role Specific Details
This role requires the Rake Manager to live onboard during the entire journey, ensuring smooth management of vendors and sales operations. An advance commercial security deposit is mandatory before rake handover, as per company policies.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in sales, food service, hospitality, retail, logistics, railway, or field operations is favored.
- Demonstrated ability in sales target achievement and vendor or team management.
- Strong skills in cash handling and reconciliation.
- Effective communication and negotiation capabilities.
- Comfortable traveling and working onboard trains for extended periods following train schedules.
- Basic proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and manage a traveling operation firsthand.
Compensation & Work Conditions
Salary ranges from ₹25,000 to ₹30,000 per month, depending on experience and performance. This position is strictly traveling and onsite onboard trains, requiring the manager to work and stay as per train schedules without a fixed office location.
Additional Information
Applicants must be agreeable to depositing an advanced commercial security amount prior to receiving rake control. Without this deposit, handover will not happen. The candidate must be comfortable with the nature of this travelling role and managing all aspects of onboard sales, vendor coordination, and operations.
