Role Overview
The Automation Engineer will be part of the global automation engineering team, responsible for maintaining and improving manufacturing process control systems. This role supports existing systems and assists in the design and deployment of new process control and safety systems across Jazz's internal manufacturing sites. The position requires adherence to global and site-specific automation standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain availability and qualified status of deployed manufacturing systems to ensure continuous operation.
- Design and implement hardware and software solutions aligned with standard operating procedures and automation standards.
- Collaborate with Site Engineering, Quality Assurance, and IS Compliance teams to ensure uninterrupted production and rapid issue resolution, including audits, CAPA management, and validation testing.
- Coordinate with manufacturing teams to communicate system changes proactively while considering production schedules.
- Quickly respond to manufacturing system faults by troubleshooting in partnership with manufacturing and engineering disciplines.
- Develop software and hardware configurations to fix faults, enhance efficiency, and improve safety, particularly responding to CAPA or error reports.
- Conduct preventative and planned maintenance activities punctually and identify additional maintenance needs.
- Implement system modifications following appropriate change control procedures.
- Proactively seek process improvements in quality, efficiency, and safety.
- Elevate the visibility and understanding of the Automation team within the organization.
- Complete all required quality and compliance tasks with high priority and adherence to timelines.
- Follow applicable Global/Site SOPs and maintain job-relevant cGxP and health and safety knowledge.
- Manage third-party vendors in alignment with company interests.
- Conduct operations in compliance with environmental policies, quality systems, and safety management guidelines.
- Participate in training on automation, environmental, safety, and quality management systems, as well as procedures and protocols.
- Ensure environmental and safety responsibilities are fulfilled in compliance with laws, standards, and the Jazz Code of Conduct.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Strong understanding of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Safety Systems, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
- Experience with integrated process control, especially batch processing.
- Working knowledge of Good Automated Manufacturing Practice (GAMP) and Good Engineering Practice (GEP).
- Competence in SQL database usage.
- Experience with system maintenance programs and installation, configuration, and updating of process control software such as Rockwell and Siemens.
- Hands-on experience maintaining and upgrading PLC or DCS control systems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to cultivate long-term relationships with cross-functional teams and management.
- Transparent communication, proactive attitude, and willingness to learn new technologies.
- Fluency in English with strong oral, written, and presentation abilities.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Background in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience working with Safety Instrumented Systems.
- Exposure to commissioning activities.
- Proficient with Rockwell (e.g., Win CC, Studio 5000, FT View SE) and Siemens (TIA portal, PCS7) platforms.
Education
University degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant field with applicable professional experience.
