Role Overview

The Tax Manager position at Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited (Telecel Ghana) is a pivotal leadership role responsible for managing all direct and indirect tax matters. This role ensures full compliance with the Ghanaian tax framework, including extensive dealings with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and focuses on enhancing the company's tax efficiency. The position encompasses managing complex tax structures such as Communications Service Tax (CST) and Value Added Tax (VAT), alongside establishing sound corporate tax policies and transfer pricing approaches that align with Telecel Ghana's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accountable for end-to-end management of the preparation, review, and timely filing of all statutory tax submissions including Corporate Income Tax, VAT, Withholding Tax, and CST returns.
  • Act as the primary point of contact with the GRA, leading tax audits, responding to regulatory inquiries, and resolving tax disputes effectively to reduce financial risks.
  • Design and implement tax planning strategies that optimize tax liabilities while ensuring strict compliance with Ghanaian laws.
  • Manage local transfer pricing documentation and compliance, ensuring cross-border transactions meet both local and international tax standards.
  • Prepare precise monthly and quarterly tax provisions, deferred tax calculations, and cash flow forecasts to support financial reporting and budgeting.
  • Keep abreast of changes in Ghana’s fiscal policies, tax legislation, and national budgets, particularly those impacting the telecommunications sector.
  • Lead and develop the tax department, enhancing team skills and maintaining strong professional relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Provide expert tax advice and support to the Finance Director on special projects as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Possession of a recognized professional tax qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, ICAG, or CITG.
  • A minimum of 6 to 8 years of relevant tax experience post-qualification, with at least 3 years in a managerial capacity.
  • Proven experience managing tax functions within the telecommunications sector, major tech companies, or with Big 4 firms serving telecom clients.
  • Extensive knowledge of the regulatory frameworks affecting telecommunications and financial services industries.

  • Strong analytical aptitude to interpret and apply complex tax laws accurately.
  • High integrity and ethical conduct in managing regulatory tax audits.

  • Expertise in tax planning and audit techniques.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Ghanaian tax legislation and accounting standards.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across all organizational levels and with external partners.
