Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Java Engineer to join our UK Digital Data & Cloud Practice. This expanding team works with a significant financial services client to support a high-volume Java-based message processing platform. The role focuses on developing and maintaining resilient backend systems within an ecosystem using Kafka, Kubernetes/OpenShift, caching, REST APIs, and distributed architecture.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and uphold high-performance and resilient backend Java components.
• Engage hands-on in crafting features related to messaging, caching, and distributed processing layers.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot sequencing, recovery, message failures, and high-volume processing issues.
• Support software releases, deployments, and ongoing operational stability.
• Conform to CI/CD processes, maintain coding standards, and ensure operational readiness.
• Implement best practices in performance, security, and resilience in handling large-scale messages.
• Collaborate effectively with Technical Leads and teammates to meet project and team goals.
• Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and foster knowledge sharing.
• Communicate progress, risks, and blockers proactively within the team context.

Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated experience with financial or trading platforms processing millions of messages daily, addressing non-functional requirements like low latency, resiliency, throughput, failover, and backpressure management.
• Proficient in cloud-native application development with microservices deployed on Docker, OpenShift, or Kubernetes.
• Strong expertise in Java application development, SQL databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle), and messaging systems such as Kafka and MQ.
• Hands-on experience with Spring framework and Spring Boot technologies.
• Knowledgeable in Java REST API creation and application security best practices including OAuth and JWT.
• Familiar with build and version control tools including Gradle, Maven, and Git/Bitbucket.
• Experience using caching technologies like Redis.
• Awareness of AI-driven programming aids like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude and their critical application in code generation, review, and refactoring.
• Understanding of prompt engineering strategies applicable to software development workflows.
• Experience operating within Agile or Scrum development environments.
