Principal DevOps Engineer

Role Overview

As a Principal DevOps Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, evolving, and transforming modern IT and platform architectures. You will oversee the technical direction of DevOps environments, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performing systems are implemented within complex projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and ongoing enhancement of sophisticated DevOps and platform architectures.
• Take ownership of architecture and operations for contemporary cloud and container platforms such as AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, and Terraform.
• Make informed architectural decisions and select suitable technologies and DevOps methodologies.
• Ensure code quality, system performance, security, and stability across production environments.
• Participate throughout the entire software development lifecycle—from gathering requirements to production deployment.
• Guide and support DevOps teams, offering mentorship to engineers.
• Develop and enhance CI/CD pipelines along with automation strategies.
• Lead efforts in modernizing and transforming existing system landscapes.
• Guarantee compliance with standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute actively to pre-sales activities and architectural concept development.
• Build and share knowledge on emerging technologies, methods, and platforms.

Qualifications

• Completed degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or an equivalent qualification.
• Over 10 years of professional experience in DevOps and cloud environments.
• Fluent German or English communication skills at a minimum C1 level.

Required Skills

• Extensive experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, and container technologies.
• Strong expertise in Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform.
• Proficient in microservices architectures and API-driven systems.
• Deep knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automation, and DevOps best practices.
• Industry experience in banking, insurance, automotive, or industrial projects.
• Desirable certifications include AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional and Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert.
