Role overview
BASF’s agricultural business is seeking a Key Account Manager based in Mkushi, Zambia. This position centers on building and expanding relationships with major farmers and distributors, helping drive growth through disciplined account management, strong agronomic support, and close alignment with customer needs across different crop stages and market segments.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and nurture relationships with priority farmer accounts and distributor partners.
- Coordinate account planning and execution with regional and area-based teams.
- Spot and pursue new business opportunities among farmers and channel partners.
- Classify and rank accounts according to their needs, value, and growth potential.
- Visit fields regularly to assess customer challenges and recommend technical solutions.
- Work with Technical Sales Support to share product knowledge, run field trials, and address customer concerns.
- Strengthen ties with key stakeholders such as agronomists, consultants, and procurement decision-makers.
- Prepare reliable forecasts that reflect seasonal demand and client requirements.
- Support market positioning plans and help implement them effectively.
- Assist in creating technical and marketing collateral.
- Provide agronomic advice during field days, demonstrations, and customer-facing events.
- Take part in S&OP discussions and stay closely aligned with internal teams.
- Maintain productive partnerships with distributors and regional stakeholders.
Candidate profile
- A degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Marketing, or Business Administration.
- At least 5 years of experience in the agriculture sector, ideally within crop protection.
- Good working knowledge of fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides.
- Strong understanding of plant health, crop care, and the agricultural landscape in Zambia.
- Demonstrated success in key account management and relationship building with customers.
- Comfort working in a multicultural setting.
- A proactive, self-motivated, and goal-focused approach.
