Overview
Datacom partners with enterprises and communities in Australia and New Zealand to empower innovation and growth through technology. As a Junior Application Engineer in the Local Government Product Engineering team, you will contribute to the development of the Datascape ERP product. This is an early-career role focused on building software capability within a collaborative team environment emphasizing quality and real community impact.
Role Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and test modifications to the ERP product while adopting established engineering methodologies.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and product experts to comprehend business needs and deliver dependable solutions.
- Troubleshoot issues and maintain existing system functionality.
- Create and update technical documentation, knowledge articles, and related support materials.
- Engage in team activities such as planning, code reviews, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Learn and apply contemporary software engineering techniques including automation, AI-augmented development, and agentic engineering.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates have approximately 1 to 2 years of relevant experience in technical, software, or IT roles and hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, Science or similar fields. Strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a sincere enthusiasm for software engineering and technology are critical. Experience or confidence using AI tools professionally and eagerness to master new technologies and business areas are valued. Good communication skills, teamwork orientation, and high attention to detail complete the profile.
Additional desirable skills: database concepts, version control with Git, API/data formats like JSON and XML, software delivery lifecycle familiarity, enterprise software experience, and Agile methodologies.
