Role Overview

We are looking for a Java Technical Lead with extensive hands-on backend development experience and proven capabilities in technical leadership to manage an engineering team end-to-end. The ideal candidate will have a fintech, forex, trading, or high-performance systems background and expertise in Java, microservices, API development, backend integrations, low-latency systems, and cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage a backend Java development team to ensure efficient task assignment, clear responsibilities, and productive work flow.
• Take charge of the team’s day-to-day execution, monitor progress, identify risks or blockers, and promptly resolve issues to meet delivery commitments.
• Provide strong technical guidance on backend architectures, microservices, REST APIs, event-driven systems, and trading-related services, ensuring scalable and secure solutions.
• Conduct code reviews, uphold best practices, enforce engineering standards, and drive technical documentation and knowledge sharing.
• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java 17+, including microservices and integrations for trading platform workflows and liquidity management.
• Collaborate with mobile teams to align API services with iOS and Android application requirements and contribute to UI development using Vaadin where needed.
• Optimize system performance and reliability by employing techniques such as JVM tuning, concurrency optimization, and supporting performance and load testing.
• Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and preventive measure implementation in production environments.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams including Product, QA, DevOps, Trading, Risk, and Operations to ensure aligned delivery and robust system operations.
• Drive engineering standard improvements, process enhancements, and adoption of automation and AI tools to increase productivity and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Over 7 years of backend engineering experience with deep expertise in Java development, preferably Java 17+.
• Minimum 2 years of experience leading technical teams of 7 or more developers.
• Proficient in microservices architecture, distributed systems, REST API design, event-driven messaging, and asynchronous processing.
• Well-versed in system performance tuning, scalability, reliability engineering, and production support.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure and collaboration with DevOps on CI/CD pipelines and environment management.
• Excellent communication skills for engaging both technical teams and business stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ownership, accountability, problem-solving ability, and capacity to work with minimal supervision.

Preferred Experience

• Background in Forex, CFD, fintech, trading platforms, banking, or financial systems.
• Work with trading platform integrations, liquidity providers, price feeds, execution engines, and risk systems.
• Knowledge of FIX protocol and market data, price feed aggregation, and Vaadin framework.
• Familiarity with Kotlin and mixed Java/Kotlin environments.
• Understanding of mobile trading app backend requirements for Swift and Kotlin applications.
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Grafana, Prometheus, ELK stack.
• Exposure to financial regulatory frameworks including FSA, DFSA, CySEC, FCA, ASIC.
• Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
• Utilization of AI tools for enhancing development productivity, code quality, and documentation.
