Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Full-Stack Software Developer to join our Christchurch office on a contract basis. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the development and evolution of our SaaS platform, influencing product direction, technical architecture, and user experience. You will collaborate closely with founders, product teams, and customers, owning features from inception to release in a fast-paced, agile environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement new functionalities for the Datanest platform
- Enhance application architecture for improved scalability and performance
- Develop APIs and enable third-party integrations
- Improve user interfaces to create intuitive experiences
- Build reporting, analytics, and AI-driven features
- Address technical debt and improve code maintainability
- Engage in code reviews and contribute to technical discussions
- Collaborate with product managers and directly with customers
- Own feature development from concept through to deployment
Who We’re Looking For
We seek a developer who enjoys problem solving, takes ownership, and thrives in collaborative settings involving both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ideally, candidates have around five years of commercial full-stack development experience, especially building modern SaaS applications.
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Proficiency with Laravel (PHP) and Vue.js
- Strong knowledge of TypeScript or JavaScript
- Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
- Development of REST APIs and system integrations
- Version control using Git
- Familiarity with AWS, DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines
- Working in Agile environments
- Use of AI-assisted development tools and modern workflows
- Golang experience or eagerness to learn it
- Exposure to scalable SaaS products, distributed systems, or enterprise software is advantageous
Qualifications
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Five or more years of experience in commercial full-stack development
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Excellent communication both written and oral
Location & Eligibility
This is a full-time, contract role based onsite in Christchurch, New Zealand. We believe in the value of close collaboration and working together in-person. Applicants must either live locally or be willing to relocate before starting and must have legal rights to work full time in New Zealand. Proficiency in English is essential.
