Your Role and Responsibilities

• Lead development and integration of new Kotlin language features.
• Design and refine intermediate representation (IR) lowering passes within the compiler pipeline.
• Diagnose and fix challenging compiler bugs, including edge cases.
• Enhance compiler efficiency in terms of performance and memory usage.
• Collaborate extensively with Kotlin teams to guide the evolution of the language.
• Improve the overall Kotlin developer experience through infrastructure maintenance and upgrades, including IR/AST transformations, Klibs, and ensuring backward compatibility.

Candidate Profile

• Attention to detail with a commitment to clean architectures and thorough edge case handling.
• Strong ownership of complex technical challenges and the ability to drive solutions independently.
• Effective communicator capable of articulating and justifying technical decisions clearly within an expert team.
• A collaborative approach to problem-solving in a team environment.
• Focus on long-term code quality, prioritizing maintainability and maintaining backward compatibility over short-term fixes.

Required Skills and Experience

• Proficiency in Kotlin/JVM or Java development.
• Solid grasp of algorithms and data structure fundamentals.
• Track record of producing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
• Experience in compiler development is highly valued.
• Familiarity with Gradle plugin development is a plus.
• Experience optimizing JVM application performance is advantageous.

Success Metrics

Initially, you will familiarize yourself with the compiler's core pipeline, taking responsibility for various lowering passes and bug fixes. Progressively, you will contribute to significant architectural improvements enhancing compiler performance and memory efficiency. Success is measured by gaining team trust through clear communication and leaving the Kotlin compiler codebase cleaner and more robust.
