Job description
Overview
Batterjee Medical College is looking for a competent Safety Officer responsible for creating, executing, and overseeing safety protocols throughout our institution. This role is crucial to fostering a secure workplace, ensuring adherence to applicable safety regulations both locally and globally, and cultivating a culture of safety awareness among all staff members.
Primary Duties
- Formulate, revise, and maintain occupational health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with relevant laws and international guidelines.
- Perform frequent risk evaluations of facilities, operational methods, and procedures to detect dangers and suggest appropriate preventive and corrective actions.
- Design and provide safety instruction sessions and awareness campaigns focusing on workplace hazard prevention, emergency response preparedness, and proper use of equipment.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to verify enforcement of safety rules and the integrity of equipment and facilities.
- Investigate accidents and near misses at the workplace, determine root causes, recommend remedies, and compile comprehensive incident reports.
- Develop, update, and test emergency response plans, including evacuation strategies, ensuring staff readiness through periodic drills.
- Maintain ongoing compliance with all required occupational health and safety laws, standards, and mandates.
- Compile and deliver periodic safety performance reports to leadership, covering risks, incident trends, and key performance indicators.
- Keep thorough and precise records of safety reviews, trainings, incident investigations, and follow-up actions.
- Supervise and verify the maintenance and operation of safety-related systems and equipment such as fire protection and gas safety installations.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a closely related discipline.
- In-depth knowledge of national and international safety standards and governmental health and safety directives.
- Skilled at recognizing hazardous materials and chemicals in the workplace.
- Superior communication skills, both oral and written.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly under pressure.
- Strong analytical thinking and keen observation abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suite.
- Capability to produce detailed analytical safety reports and official documentation.
