Job Overview
The Construction Estimator will carry the responsibility of assessing project bid specifications and drawings thoroughly to ensure complete understanding for successful bidding and project acquisition. This role demands proactive engagement with subcontractors to guarantee timely receipt of bids.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize general construction contractor estimating experience, with preference for background in government contracting.
- Perform comprehensive quantitative take-offs across all construction divisions.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with subcontractors, architects, and engineers.
- Manage bid administration, including preparation of subcontractor bid packages, securing appropriate subcontractor coverage on bid days, and accurate input of data into estimating software.
- Thoroughly review bid requirements and proactively inquire on any ambiguous aspects to ensure clarity.
Qualification Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related disciplines, or a comparable blend of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years’ expertise in construction estimating encompassing means and methods, accounting, document coordination, and a solid capacity to interpret diverse construction drawings and documentation.
- Strong computer proficiency particularly in MS Office suite, with emphasis on Excel.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal capabilities.
- Willingness to undertake occasional travel for site inspections.
Additional Information
Applicants must be located within a practical commuting radius to the Newport News, VA office, as the position is onsite and requires presence at the company location.
Salary Range: $95,000 to $115,000 annually.
