Role Scope

The Senior Electrical Design Engineer, reporting to the Electrical Design Manager, will play a pivotal role within the project team with extensive cross-disciplinary design and technical expertise. This position requires engagement with stakeholders at varying levels and management of design packages from initial assessment through estimation, procurement, planning, and onsite handover. The role demands supporting comprehensive project deliverables throughout all phases, contributing significantly to delivering high-value projects for major data centre clientele.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with engineers and construction managers to formulate detailed project plans and ensure timely execution.
• Coordinate with consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, estimators, quantity surveyors, and workforce involved in projects.
• Engage with clients and external parties such as insurers and vendors when necessary.
• Create detailed scope-of-works (SoW), task information deliverables lists (TIDP), and responsibility matrices (RACI) for electrical disciplines.
• Identify and escalate design-related risks affecting planning, commercial, or management aspects, devising strategies to minimize impacts.
• Maintain comprehensive records of key design activities, escalating issues as appropriate.
• Support Central Engineering and site teams proactively on construction and operational matters.
• Participate in design meetings to provide ongoing optimization input.
• Collaborate on design changes, innovations, and research within the team.
• Contribute to new tender processes and pre-construction service agreement (PCSA) outputs within the business unit.
• Oversee construction adherence to design specifications and project timelines.
• Help develop scheduling for design deliveries with clients, project managers, design teams, and consultants.
• Manage the approval and deliverable processes for design packages ensuring procurement readiness.
• Verify alignment of design schedules with consultant resources and construction/procurement needs.
• Perform site inspections and document progress and quality metrics.
• Follow information control standards such as RFIs and BIM360 protocols accurately.
• Ensure electrical technical compliance on projects and maintain familiarity with both client and national design standards.
• Assess and address risks and issues during design phases and potential impacts on construction.
• Review and evaluate design submissions for feasibility and ease of construction.
• Propose value engineering suggestions and off-site manufacturing options.
• Confirm materials comply with project needs, budget constraints, and quality, environmental, health, and safety standards.
• Prepare detailed handover documentation for site teams concerning respective packages.
• Coordinate electrical disciplines and their interfaces with civil and mechanical teams.
• Review and verify plans, drawings, and quantity calculations for precision.
• Interpret and manage contract design documents from clients or architects effectively.
• Incorporate sustainable design and construction practices, evaluating environmental effects and recommending improvements.
• Produce thorough reports and documentation for project approvals and permits.
• Maintain precise project progress records including procurement schedules, technical submission registers, drawing logs, RFI logs, deviation trackers, lessons learned records, and issue/ interface/ scope gap logs.
• Offer technical advice and assistance to construction teams and review technical submissions.
• Assist with recruitment efforts for the Central Engineering team as appropriate.
• Execute additional engineering tasks as directed by management.

Qualifications and Requirements

• At least five years of postgraduate experience in Industrial, Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences, or Data Centre sectors.
• Thorough understanding of Statutory Consent Processes and Building Regulations.
• Proven expertise in design, technical engineering, and construction coordination.
• Experience leading meetings and guiding team members.
• Strong skills with structural design and analysis software, including BIM and Revit.
