Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Architect to join our Buildings + Places team in Burnaby, BC. This role involves leading architectural efforts on high-profile projects spanning public and private sectors including transit, commercial, institutional, justice, education, and government facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural design and development on significant projects, ensuring innovative, creative, and functional solutions.
  • Prepare comprehensive planning documents, conceptual and schematic designs, detailed construction documents, technical specifications, and cost estimations.
  • Utilize architectural software tools effectively to resolve design challenges.
  • Ensure full compliance with building codes, regulations, and established architectural standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and coordinate design activities across various engineering disciplines.
  • Engage with clients to understand requirements and present design concepts.
  • Support business development initiatives by contributing expertise and client engagement.
  • Perform construction administration and project management duties when required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture with at least six years of professional experience on complex building projects such as science, technology, commercial, institutional, or industrial facilities.
  • Licensure as Architect registered with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA).
  • Proficiency in Revit is essential.
  • Preferred Master’s degree or equivalent advanced experience.
  • Demonstrated skill in working within dynamic, multidisciplinary in-house teams.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building systems, construction detailing, and codes including Ontario Building Code.
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
  • Experience navigating municipal permitting and development approval processes in Canada.
  • Creativity in architectural design and sound independent judgment.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Photoshop, SketchUp, and other visualization tools.
  • Experience in aviation, transit, or water/wastewater treatment sector projects is desirable.
  • Ability to conduct construction administration and project management is advantageous.
  • Dedication to working diligently with a hands-on and collaborative approach.

Additional Information

  • This position does not offer relocation support.
  • Canadian employment authorization sponsorship is not available.
  • Successful candidates must attend in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment.

Compensation and Benefits

Annual salary range is CAD 110,000 to CAD 130,000 based on education, qualifications, experience, and location.
