Job description
About Talabat
Talabat stands as the premier online platform for ordering food and groceries in the MENA region, operating across nine countries. Established in 2004 by entrepreneurs in Kuwait, the company expanded its presence throughout the GCC, Egypt, and Jordan, becoming the region’s largest and most popular food delivery app. With over 2,000 employees and millions of users, Talabat processes hundreds of thousands of orders daily. As part of the global Delivery Hero group, Talabat is involved with international engineering teams in 13 countries and operations in 40+ countries.
Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on IT Engineering Manager to lead the Enterprise Applications domain, managing devices, collaboration tools, and identity/access systems vital for Talabat employees. This role leads a compact engineering team coordinating efforts across various markets, balancing about 70–80% technical duties and 20–30% leadership and delivery management. The position demands substantial autonomy, focusing on executing technical solutions, automating processes, documenting procedures, and setting standards for scalable functions across different regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Devise and maintain endpoint and device management strategies covering macOS and Windows environments using tools like Jamf, Intune, and Jump Cloud. Manage security baselines, patching, encryption, inventory, and the full device lifecycle including procurement, provisioning, offboarding, and asset recovery, ensuring collaboration with Security teams.
- Administer daily operations of core SaaS platforms such as Google Workspace, Slack, and Atlassian. This includes managing configurations, licensing, integrations, cost efficiency, vendor negotiations, onboarding new business tools, retiring outdated services, and facilitating Power User Community deployments.
- Oversee identity and access management, including SSO, MFA, and identity providers (Okta, Entra, Google). Manage Joiner-Mover-Leaver processes with automated provisioning, deprovisioning, role-based access, and periodic access reviews.
- Implement automation and employ AI tools to remove repetitive tasks, enhancing team efficiency without expanding headcount. Daily scripting using Python, Bash, or PowerShell is expected, as well as promoting AI tool adoption within the team.
- Handle incident response and maintain an on-call rotation for your domain; act as an escalation point during peak and off-hours, manage incident communication, and pursue root-cause fixes. Participate in cross-domain incident management and promote design reliability with clear failure responses.
- Define and monitor IT service standards, SLAs, and operational metrics. Manage ticketing and ITSM workflows to enhance employee experience, ensure global support consistency across time zones, uphold change management practices, and support compliance and audits such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small engineering team, setting technical standards and managing performance. Facilitate team growth, knowledge sharing, and produce documentation and training materials to avoid single points of failure. Handle vendor relationships, procurement, renewals, and foster strategic partnerships emphasizing cost-effectiveness.
Required Qualifications
- At least 5 to 7 years of experience in IT operations, IT engineering, or corporate IT with comprehensive expertise in endpoint management, SaaS platforms, and identity solutions, ideally supporting organizations with over 5,000 users.
- Proficient with MDM solutions such as Jamf, Intune, or Jumpcloud, identity providers like Okta or Entra, and SaaS administration of Google Workspace, Slack, Atlassian.
- Demonstrated scripting and automation capabilities utilizing Python, Bash, PowerShell, and practical use of AI tools with evidential accomplishments.
- Skilled in business process analysis, requirements gathering, solution architecture, and vendor management including licensing and contract negotiation.
- Experience leading or mentoring small teams with a focus on improving operational standards. A strong desire for people leadership is essential; formal management background is an advantage.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects efficiently, delivering them on time and budget.
- Self-driven with minimal supervision, capable of setting priorities, delivering projects, and establishing standards effectively.
- Proven record of defining domain ownership clearly while maintaining cross-team collaboration.
- Customer-focused with emphasis on improving IT user experience, communicating clearly, and providing alternative solutions instead of outright refusals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships and influence without authoritative power at various organizational levels.
- Preference for a documentation-first approach, capable of managing local system layers while interfacing with central platform teams.
- Deep knowledge of enterprise application security practices.
