Job description

Position Overview

The role of Cashier is vital within the Branch Banking Department at Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, with the job grade AM-II. Reporting directly to the Branch Operation Manager, this full-time position is based at the branch location in Haripad, Kerala, and is responsible for handling all cash-related transactions according to banking protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently manage the day-to-day cash transactions and account activities to ensure smooth branch operations.
  • Handle the cash operations including receipt and processing of cheques, drafts, pay orders, and other banking instruments within authorized limits, providing receipts for each transaction.
  • Disburse and collect cash for withdrawal and deposits, including EMI repayments, maintaining accurate system entries.
  • Maintain and update registers such as inward/outward cash, petty cash, and asset registers; coordinate with the Regional Head Office for requisitions.
  • Perform daily cash tallying aligning with transaction records and prepare end-of-day branch reports.
  • Jointly oversee the cash and vault operations along with the operations officer, ensuring security and compliance.
  • Engage with customers during transactions to understand their needs, offer information about new products and services, and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries promptly and guiding customers on alternate banking channels.
  • Ensure adherence to transaction turnaround times (TAT) and compliance with all regulatory and bank policy requirements.
  • Throughout the day, verify cash counts, validate customer authenticity, update passbooks, and manage currency chest deposits.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in any discipline, preferably in Finance or Commerce.
  • At least 1 to 2 years of experience handling high-volume cash transactions.
  • Familiarity with financial modules or ERP systems for recording transactions.
  • Experience consolidating accounting information accurately.
  • Strong cash handling and accounting skills with ability to identify counterfeit currency.
  • Proficiency in computer operation and willingness to learn relevant software through on-the-job training.
  • Excellent numerical ability, multitasking skills, and a customer-centric mindset.
  • Demonstrable interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.

Additional Information

  • The role demands meticulous attention to detail, systematic work habits, and managing relationships with internal teams such as regional operations, FCU officers, and service quality executives, as well as external entities including neighboring banks, cash management agencies, and BC agents.
  • Completion of mandatory training and certification programs organized by the operations department is required.
