Position Overview
Join MSD Australia & New Zealand as a Mechanical Process Engineer in a permanent, full-time capacity located onsite in Upper Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand. This role offers a competitive salary range of NZD $120,000 to $150,000 plus benefits and promises opportunities for professional advancement and skill development in a thriving industry.
As a key contributor to the Engineering Centre of Excellence, you will ensure that site KPIs are met through proactive project delivery and lead complex problem-solving and improvement projects. Your expertise will help maintain compliant and seamless product supply for the Animal Health site while optimizing costs to meet customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Mechanical Process Engineering lead in your area, aligning with COE goals and collaborating closely with stakeholders.
- Diagnose and resolve intricate process and equipment challenges, proposing multiple corrective and preventive actions and selecting the best fit based on operational priorities.
- Critically evaluate current site processes and procedures to enhance quality, safety, cost efficiency, and process improvements.
- Deliver data-driven presentations to the Site Leadership Team advocating for project sponsorship and change initiatives.
- Coordinate and participate in meetings across different organizational levels using project management and process improvement methodologies.
- Build networks with subject matter experts on-site and within the broader organization.
- Lead and oversee local, site-wide, and global projects, including new equipment installations and participation in high-impact initiatives like sustainability and product launches.
- Manage complex system enablers such as installation qualifications, engineering standards, and quality ownership within your technical domain.
- Maintain transparent communications regarding project, product, and material statuses to ensure cross-functional alignment.
- Utilize data analytics to identify improvement opportunities and recommend actionable solutions to enhance cycle time, yield, and equipment reliability.
- Champion safety and GMP compliance by conducting coaching, pre-startup checks, hazard analyses, and training.
- Ensure readiness of utilities and equipment through verification of configurations, calibrations, and maintenance records.
- Implement root cause analysis techniques and oversee continuous improvement measures like FMEA and capability studies.
- Prepare and support audit processes by managing SOPs, deviations, CAPAs, and other compliance activities.
- Mentor and develop area staff and COE members on technical systems and operational tools.
Candidate Qualifications
- An Associate Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Experience in Process or Mechanical Engineering, ideally within a GMP-controlled manufacturing context.
- Strong analytical skills combined with proficiency in data analytics and Microsoft Office suite.
- Proven ability in problem solving, continuous improvement initiatives, and project management.
- Effective leadership experience including stakeholder influence and staff coaching in a production or engineering setting.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational capabilities able to operate compliantly in controlled environments.
