Job description

Role Overview

Join a venture-backed biomaterials startup based in London focused on developing sustainable, bio-based polymers as alternatives to conventional plastics. This position involves managing and conducting materials trials through processes such as compounding, extrusion, and injection moulding while performing hands-on laboratory characterization and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise material trials at manufacturing partners involving extrusion, injection moulding, and film processing techniques.
  • Plan and implement laboratory-scale experiments utilizing characterization tools including Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), rheology assessments, and mechanical testing to improve polymer formulations.
  • Investigate processing issues and conduct root cause analysis on material defects to facilitate smooth scale-up to production.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess a degree in Polymer Processing, Materials Science, or an analogous discipline with a minimum of one year’s relevant industrial experience.
  • Demonstrated practical expertise operating polymer processing equipment such as compounding lines, extruders, or injection moulding machines.
  • Strong skills in experimental design and data analysis, coupled with a proactive mindset for establishing structure and progressing projects efficiently.
