Job description
Position Overview
Standard Bus Contracting is seeking a Dispatcher to support the efficient running of school bus routes. This full-time role involves coordinating daily operations to ensure routes run smoothly, while providing exemplary service to bus drivers, schools, parents, and the community.
Working Hours and Compensation
This full-time role operates Monday to Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. The wage for this position is $29.36 per hour.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee and adjust bus routes using Bus Planner Software paired with an in-depth understanding of the local Whitehorse and Yukon areas.
- Distribute updated schedules, communicate with drivers, and maintain records of attendance.
- Inform appropriate departments about driver absences or route vacancies.
- Function as the communication link between schools, parents, and the bus company to promptly address questions and resolve issues professionally.
- Handle morning bus dispatching in cooperation with the operations team.
- Participate in meetings with education departments, school boards, and relevant committees when required.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong ability to read maps and a comprehensive knowledge of the Whitehorse and Yukon roadways, schools, and community landmarks.
- Preferably some experience in administrative or dispatch roles.
- Holding a Class 2 driver’s license is advantageous.
- Exceptional phone manners paired with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Capable of multitasking effectively and maintaining performance under stressful conditions.
