Commissioning Manager

Overview

The Commissioning Manager will oversee the planning, organizing, and execution of all commissioning activities for a hyperscale data center project, covering Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP), ELV, Building Management Systems (BMS), and IT infrastructure. This position entails managing the entire commissioning process from design review through Integrated Systems Testing (IST), client acceptance, and successful operational transfer while ensuring compliance with project, client, and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
• Between 10 to 15 years of commissioning experience, with at least 5 years dedicated to mission-critical or hyperscale data center environments.
• Preferred experience with hyperscale clients like Microsoft, Google, AWS, Meta, or Oracle.
• Leadership experience managing large commissioning teams on projects involving IT loads greater than 20MW.
• Preferred certifications include: ACG Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA), Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer (ATD), PMP, and training in NFPA, Electrical Safety, or NETA standards.

Technical Expertise

• Proven skills in data center commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing.
• Experience validating reliability and redundancy (such as N+1, 2N, 2N+1 configurations).
• Proficient with MEP system testing and building management/control platforms (BMS, EPMS, DCIM).
• Knowledge of construction quality assurance/control processes and risk management.
• Experienced with commissioning software tools and Microsoft Office Project planning applications.

Primary Responsibilities

• Create and implement the commissioning strategy, plan, and handover roadmap in alignment with project milestones and client needs.
• Lead commissioning activities across all critical systems from design to final handover, ensuring system readiness with thorough inspections and checklist completions.
• Conduct technical reviews of design documentation and operational sequences to confirm compliance with hyperscale data center standards.
• Supervise startup, testing, and commissioning for HVAC, chilled water, fire protection, MV/LV electrical, UPS, generators, batteries, and fuel systems.
• Manage commissioning for building systems including BMS, EPMS, DCIM, SCADA, fire alarms, security, access control, CCTV, and networking.
• Plan and oversee functional performance and integrated systems testing, including scenario-based failure and redundancy tests.
• Serve as the principal liaison with clients, consultants, suppliers, and operations, coordinating approvals, witness testing, and readiness evaluations.
• Ensure thorough documentation preparation, review, and formal handover of commissioning records, manuals, drawings, training logs, and final reports.
• Maintain stringent safety, quality, and compliance standards through adherence to PTW/LOTO and relevant industry codes (ASHRAE, NFPA, IEC, Uptime Institute).
