Job description

Position Overview

This role operates under the guidance of the Cleaning Supervisor or an authorized delegate, requiring participation in cleaning tasks across designated areas within the premises.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform sweeping, suction cleaning, mopping, dry buffing, spray cleaning, waxing, machine scrubbing, drying, stripping, and re-polishing floors utilizing suitable equipment.
  • Remove stains and clean soft floor coverings such as carpets and mats employing appropriate methods.
  • Maintain cleanliness of toilet and shower areas including all fixtures and fittings.
  • Dust and clean ledges, walls, fixtures, fittings, and surfaces up to a height of 3.35 meters; polish furniture when necessary.
  • Empty internal litter bins and transport waste to designated collection points.

Workplace Standards and Safety

  • Ensure all duties comply with Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, relevant Acts, Statutory Instruments, COSHH regulations, and applicable Codes of Practice.
  • Wear protective garments or workwear provided and flat-soled enclosed-toe shoes during cleaning operations.
  • Use and maintain cleaning equipment responsibly, reporting any defects immediately.
  • Complete all required documentation related to cleaning activities.
  • Provide cover for colleagues during sick leave as per Education Authority procedures.

Training and Development

Employees are expected to attend induction, refresher, and any necessary training for duties graded at or above their level. Pay adjustments apply only for higher-grade responsibilities mandated by the authority.

  • Applicants must demonstrate compliance with eligibility criteria and equal opportunity principles outlined by the Education Authority.
  • This position requires an enhanced disclosure check under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007, with the certificate cost (£33) to be borne by the applicant.

Selection and Evaluation Criteria

Applicants must clearly demonstrate meeting essential and desirable criteria, including experience in cleaning methods, machinery operation, health and safety knowledge (COSHH), and effective communication and organizational skills. Flexibility and teamwork capability are also essential.
