Principal Procurement Officer

Job Description

An exciting opportunity to join the Dept of Housing and Public Works’ Procurement team as a Principal Procurement Officer where you will work with the team in partnership with a diverse range of stakeholders to coordinate delivery of multiple programs critical to the achievement of the objectives of the department.

Procurement supports business areas across the department through the provision of expert procurement advice and policy, and by promoting best practice and ethical decision-making that aligns with the Queensland Government Procurement Strategy and Queensland Procurement Policy.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Developing an informed understanding of the requirements of the business to be procured ensuring consistency with organisational goals, strategy, and policy.
  • Applying knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to procurement-related project activities to deliver fit-for-purpose procurement outcomes.
  • Developing appropriate significant procurement plans that incorporate key deliverables; coordinating, monitoring and reporting progress of procurement activities against the plans.
  • Adopting project management methodology including the identification of risks and controls. Negotiating and implementing those controls and treatments where necessary and ensure an appropriate escalation process is actioned where risks are likely to impact the project.
  • Leading an evaluation process in line with a principles-based procurement policy environment to determine value for money to create efficiencies.
  • Negotiating contract formation and undertaking low level negotiations with suppliers.
  • Developing timely and accurate written submissions, briefs, reports, presentations, and information papers of a detailed and strategic nature.
  • Leading and supporting partnering and relationship building with a diverse range of internal and external business partners, stakeholders and clients.
  • Supporting and helping maintain a workplace safety culture by ensuring that all policies and practices concerning Workplace Health and Safety are applied and are part of day-to-day operations.

Please note that due to the recent Machinery of Government change, this department is now the Department of Housing and Public Works.
