The Opportunity
Required
Reporting directly to the Area Supervisor, Roads, this role is responsible for operating and maintaining graders, backhoes, gradalls or street sweepers and perform any labour required in the Operations division in a safe, efficient, and customer-focused manner. As the Operator 2, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
- Operate heavy vehicles/equipment and maintain under all legislated requirements
- Participate in routine maintenance and perform daily safety and maintenance checks
- Instruct trainees on operation of graders, backhoes, gradalls, and street sweepers
- Record road conditions and report to Area Supervisor, Roads
- Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required
- Advise the Lead Hand and/or Area Supervisor, Roads of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
- Participate in and attend training courses as required by the Town
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Be responsible to work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, the Town of Caledon Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a motivated professional with completion of Grade 12 or equivalent; additional coursework, including Good Roads’ TJ Mahony Road School (Construction and/or Maintenance), is an asset. Our ideal candidate has valid DZ licence in good standing with no more than 3 demerit points; ARZ is an asset. With minimum 4 years’ experience in the operation of heavy equipment under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, along with three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in road maintenance and construction tasks.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated mechanical ability. We are seeking an individual with superior teamwork skills and excellent communication skills.
The successful candidate for Operator 2 will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office and after hours (as required).
This position offers a hourly rate of $34.81 (Effective April 1, 2025) plus a competitive benefit package.
Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
