Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Scientist Upstream with a strong background in bioprocessing to join our esteemed organization. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in process development and cGMP manufacturing, contributing significantly to our innovative research programs aimed at achieving our strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead bioprocessing research programs to fulfill the organization’s goals.
  • Supervise complex systems and technical staff, ensuring optimal operations in bioprocessing and manufacturing while adhering to defined objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with the Chief Scientific Officer in advancing bioprocessing and manufacturing initiatives.
  • Cultivate and guide a cohesive team of upstream scientists and research associates, fostering a culture of inclusivity and teamwork.
  • Manage production equipment related to cell culture, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Oversee the manufacturing process for research and clinical-scale protein production, facilitating seamless transitions to downstream operations.
  • Conduct a variety of complex tasks in line with current GMP practices while maintaining accurate records for compliance.
  • Analyze data, prepare technical documentation, and implement necessary revisions to processes and equipment.
  • Organize the daily workload of the upstream team and support multiple projects concurrently.
  • Provide training to new team members and furnish performance feedback to senior management.

Required Skills

  • Profound knowledge of cell culture processes, including banking, thawing, expansion, production, and harvest.
  • Strong capabilities in designing and executing research plans, including design of experiments and proof of concept work.
  • Proficiency in cGMP manufacturing and strict adherence to standard operating procedures and batch records.
  • Technical troubleshooting skills focused on process and equipment challenges.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline with a minimum of 2 years of industrial experience, or an M.S. with at least 4 years, or a B.S. with 6+ years of relevant experience in process development and/or cGMP manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated expertise in process transfer and scale-up methodologies.
  • Proven track record of maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
