A magnificent power station from the 1920s reborn as an arts centre on the Brisbane River (Maiwar), Brisbane Powerhouse is a premier destination for contemporary culture and art. With over 1,750 performances and events each year, we offer a diverse program of music, theatre, comedy, dance, film, visual arts, in-conversation, and digital arts. Brisbane Powerhouse is also home to renowned festivals like Melt: Festival of Queer Arts and Culture and Night Feast, celebrating culinary and artistic excellence.

We are seeking an experienced Head of Lighting to lead all lighting operations across live performances, events, and visual arts installations. This hands-on role ensures seamless technical execution, innovation, and safety in a fast-paced, creative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the provision of theatrical lighting services, offering technical expertise, support, and planning for all events staged at Brisbane Powerhouse.
  • Ensure the implementation and maintenance of theatrical, event, house, and visual arts lighting, including rigging, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Provide expert advice on lighting design and execution for live performances and visual arts installations.
  • Recommend and implement appropriate equipment substitutions or alternatives as needed.
  • To meet all staffing resource requirements, lead and support the casual lighting team, including recruitment, training, and professional development.
  • Collaborate with Brisbane Powerhouse’s Technical Director and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) team to uphold a safe working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations for staff, contractors, and suppliers.

About You

You have at least four years of experience in a theatre, multi-arts venue, festival, or entertainment setting and extensive theatrical and event lighting knowledge. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment are essential. Experience with CAD drafting (Vectorworks preferred) is a plus but not required.
