About The Opportunity

We are looking for a talented Software or Senior Software Engineer to help build and maintain the next generation of web-based, geospatial applications for the Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN). This role will be crucial in unlocking and making visible the vast collection of complex marine research data maintained by the AODN.

As a Software Engineer at AODN your role will involve providing expertise in system design and development to support data-driven systems and ensuring the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of existing applications. This role will see you contribute to the development of innovative software solutions within a complex business and technical environment. Additionally, in the Senior Engineer role you will lead a small, highly skilled team in the development and maintenance of geospatial applications. You’ll operate with a high degree of autonomy and provide technical leadership.

What’s Required

  • Experience in Java / Spring Boot and/or Python including design and implementation of advanced REST APIs and data processing workflows.
  • Well-developed skills with core web technologies HTML, CSS and JavaScript as well as experience with React, Semantic UI, MUI or similar in the implementation of user interfaces for web applications.
  • Experience developing solutions using a cloud provider such as Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with relational database systems (such as PostgreSQL) or no-SQL alternatives (such as Elasticsearch).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with ability to take ownership of a complex problem and devise solutions.

Qualifications And Licences

  • Degree qualifications in Computer Science (or similar) combined with significant relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant extensive experience and/or education/training.

HEO 8

  • Demonstrated technical leadership with an ability to develop team members and transfer knowledge to team members as required.

Qualifications And Licences

  • Progress towards (or completion of) postgraduate qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology and/or Geospatial Science combined with extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant extensive and/or education/training.

Salary Details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 or 8 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $147,034 comprising base salary within the range of $98,473 to $125,670 plus 17% superannuation.
