Overview

This highly regulated and governed environment demands the closest scrutiny and the ability to understand and interpret many regulations and pieces of legislation and policy. The role holder will be working closely with the ABCIB European Head and Deputy Head of Financial Crime, Head of Sanctions and London Sanctions Advisory Team to ensure consistent application of legislative requirements through procedures that are employed in the first line of defence in each ABCIB and ABC SA subsidiary and branch. Wherever there is a higher standard than that set by ABCIB and ABC SA these exceptions must be managed accordingly. The role holder will need to be proactive in the implementation of any new or changed policies to make relevant staff aware of their obligations and be able to report on the performance of their branch through the key performance reporting metrics.

Interaction with local regulators and the wider industry is expected and therefore a thorough knowledge of the risks presented to ABCIB by financial crime and sanctions are essential.

From the second line of defence, provide advice and guidance on the application of sanctions compliance.

Review and approve relevant and sanctions related referrals ensuring they are in compliance with applicable sanctions and Group Policies.

Conduct Quality Assurance testing in line with the Financial Crime Quality Assurance Framework.

The Financial Crime & Sanctions Advisory will be part of a small team and will be expected to actively contribute to the enhancement of the sanctions control framework of the Bank, and also undertake tasks as assigned by the line manager.

Overall the role holder must be confident in their understand of sanctions and their application.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Support the Team in reviewing and updating financial crime and sanctions related policies / procedures / standards and assist operations and front office with the implementation and embedding of those polices, standards and procedures across ABCIB.
  • Reviewing Financial Crime & Sanctions escalations received by the ABCIB London Sanctions Advisory including TEDD approvals High risk client escalations and general enquiries.
  • Provide advice on sanctions matters to the business, second line and management.
  • Assist with management of the Safewatch MLRO queue
  • Support completion of financial crime and sanctions risk assessments.
  • Undertake financial crime and sanctions control testing to ensure the systems and controls in place to manage sanctions risk are sufficient and up to date.
  • Support for FCC related projects and enhancements where required.

Candidate Specification

  • Understanding of global sanctions
  • Understanding of the financial crime and sanctions legislative and regulatory environment for ABCIB
  • Must have knowledge of Trade Finance
  • Sanctions qualification
  • Undertaken implementation of new policies previously
  • 3 years industry experience
  • Experience and knowledge of sanctions investigations.
  • Conversant with sanctions screening and filtering tools and processes
  • Openness in dealing with all staff
  • Must have strong at written and verbal influencing
  • Strong participant in discussions and meetings
  • Must be able to deal with staff at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to read and assess legislative and regulatory notices and interpret them for implementation.
