Job Description

The Director, Ethical Standards Unit leads the development and implementation of key programs that improve ethical culture and decision-making across the Department of Justice and the broader Justice portfolio.

Leading a team of skilled professionals, the Director is responsible for delivering strategic initiatives, overseeing investigations of alleged misconduct and corrupt conduct, and providing expert and authoritative advice to leaders across the department.

  • Lead the Ethical Standards Unit team, ensuring business unit operations and activities are consistent with legislative requirements, best practice and are of the highest levels of probity.
  • Oversee a program of cultural and management reform and behavioural change in the areas of integrity and accountability.
  • Develop corporate education training programs focussed on public sector ethics.
  • Provide strategic policy advice on departmental ethical issues, including the development and implementation of policies and practices relating to ethical

standards.

  • Lead the development and implementation of programs, policies and workplace practices that improve ethical culture and ethical decision-making across the Department of Justice and other agencies within the Justice Portfolio.
  • Design and implement programs to develop leadership and management capability in relation to ethics and disciplinary processes.
  • Partner, consult and negotiate with key stakeholders across the department and Justice portfolio to provide advice on ethical issues.
  • Oversee internal investigations into allegations of misconduct and corrupt conduct.
  • Lead the delivery comprehensive reports and expert guidance to decision makers regarding serious workplace conduct and disciplinary matters.
  • Oversee all projects led by the Ethical Standards Unit.
