This is your opportunity to contribute to the Office of the Independent Assessor, a statutory authority, and deliver an improved councillor complaints management function for the Queensland community. Working within a small team of professionals, you will be responsible for investigating complaints of alleged breaches by elected councillors across Queensland that they have engaged in misconduct within the meaning of the of the Local Government Act 2009 (Qld) and the City of Brisbane Act 2010 (Qld) .
Reporting To a Principal Investigator You Will
- Conduct complex and sensitive investigations in line with the functions set out in section 150AY of the Local Government Act .
- Use statutory powers available to investigators under Chapter 5A, Part 4, Division 5 of the Local Government Act by drafting and serving formal notices in the investigation of allegations of misconduct and statutory offences.
- Assess complex oral and written information against evidentiary requirements in local government legislation to accurately inform the course of an investigation through the case management process.
- Conduct formal interviews with witnesses and subject councillors both in-person and/or remotely. Draft and overview correspondence and affidavits to ensure the production of high-quality material.
- Provide critical technical and evidential advice and prepare high quality briefings and electronic briefs of evidence.
You will have demonstrated experience conducting investigations particularly in a disciplinary framework. You will manage your work to complete investigations in short timeframes and in an environment where there is a high volume of cases. You will also have exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, necessary for clear expression and effective collaboration and an unwavering commitment to ethical principles, exercising discretion and confidentiality when working on sensitive matters.
Familiarity or previous experience working within a local government will be highly regarded, as will relevant qualifications in investigations.
