Are you passionate about bringing awareness to the mental health crisis among our youth? If so, this part-time, occasional position might be your opportunity to help! Girl Scouts San Diego is looking for a Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor to provide youth mental health first aid training to our stakeholders. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

Essential Responsibilities/Duties

  • Deliver Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) courses in accordance with Mental Health First Aid USA approved curriculum, materials and resources.
  • Facilitate skills-based courses in-person or virtually, that teach participants skills to reach out and provide initial help and support to youth (ages 12-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Learning staff to arrange and schedule classes (dates, times and location(s)), register participants, order and/or arrange ordering or pickup of course materials and supplies, and room setup.
  • Follow-up with registered class participants to ensure completion of any required course prerequisites, confirm registration, answer any course related questions, and provide certificates of completion.
  • Provide Volunteer Learning staff with course registration, attendance and completion records and course feedback reports.
  • Keep current on Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor requirements and maintain certification and related requirements.
  • Assist with other duties and tasks to ensure efficient and effective course offerings and delivery.

Required Experience

To be qualified for this position, you should possess:

  • Current Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor certification from Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) USA.
  • Ability to conduct and facilitate YMHFA training in-person or in virtual formats, using available technology and tools.
  • Previous experience providing training to adult learners; knowledge of adult learning styles and theories is highly desired.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, on the phone and in writing, and present information in a clear, concise and engaging manner.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with staff and volunteers; willing and able to work in a collaborative cross-functional team environment.
  • Highly organized, ability to meet deadlines, exceptional follow-up and follow-through skills and strong attention to details.
  • Excellent facilitation skills adept at engaging adult learners with varying learning styles.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings and weekends as scheduled.
  • Position is based out of our San Diego (Balboa) location. However, must be able and willing to teach/facilitate courses from other locations as scheduled.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) experience with project management software is desired.
  • Valid drivers license, proof of insurance, and access to reliable transportation. Occasional travel will be required.
  • Belief in the mission and values of Girl Scouting; be willing to subscribe to the principles expressed in the Promise and Law and GSSD mission, vision, and values.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a grant-funded position and will last through April 30, 2026.

Salary: $25.00/hour
