Job Description
Job Purpose
The Senior Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for design, engineering, installation, testing, and commissioning of auxiliary and miscellaneous systems for power plants and substations.
The individual must possess strong knowledge of station auxiliary LVAC/DC systems at substations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Engineering & Design:
- Develop design specifications, drawings, and technical documents for auxiliary and miscellaneous systems in power plants and substations.
- Conduct engineering calculations, LVAC / DC System load calculations, LV Cable sizing calculations, MV Cable sizing.
- Ensure compliance with international standards (IEC, IEEE, ASME, NFPA, etc.) and Toshiba’s engineering guidelines.
- Review vendor proposals, technical submittals, and material approvals to ensure technical compatibility and compliance with project requirements.
Project Execution & Site Support
- Provide on-site technical support and resolve engineering challenges in coordination with project teams, subcontractors and suppliers.
Project Management & Coordination
- Collaborate with project managers to define scope, schedule, and resource requirements for auxiliary systems.
- Participate in design review meetings, HAZOP studies, and client discussions to ensure project success.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to auxiliary systems during project execution.
- Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and documentation for internal and client review.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all designs and site activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Adhere to Toshiba’s quality management systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
Educational Qualification & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- A minimum of 11+ years of relevant experience in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects, specifically in power plants, substations, and transmission systems in the GCC/UAE.
- Strong technical background and previous hands-on site experience.
- Experienced in vendor management, site supervision, and project coordination.
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and coordinate with international teams.
- Willingness to travel to the project sites across the MENA region as required.
Skills & Knowledge
- Possess strong knowledge of station auxiliary LVAC/DC systems.
- Familiar with contracting, budgeting, and cost estimation for auxiliary system projects.
- Possess strong problem solving, communication and leadership skills.
