Position Summary

The Manager – Athlete Recovery Services is a licensed manual therapist (ATC, DPT, LMT, DC) specializing in optimizing athlete recovery from the demands of NFL gameplay and training. This role is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive recovery strategies that enhance player readiness, performance, and overall well-being. By integrating evidence-based manual therapy techniques, lifestyle interventions, and advanced therapeutic modalities, the Manager ensures that athletes receive the highest level of care to maximize recovery and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manual Therapy & Recovery Techniques:
    • Deliver hands-on treatment using techniques such as Active Release Technique (ART), Mulligan Mobilizations, joint manipulation, stretching, myofascial release, and other evidence-based modalities.
    • Assess and address musculoskeletal imbalances, mobility restrictions, and movement dysfunctions to improve overall player function and durability.
  • Therapeutic Modalities & Recovery Protocols:
    • Implement and oversee the use of advanced recovery technologies, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, red light therapy, sensory deprivation, sauna, steam, and cold water immersion.
    • Evaluate and introduce emerging recovery methods based on current sports science and rehabilitation research.
  • Lifestyle & Wellness Optimization:
    • Educate players on sleep optimization, guided meditation, and other holistic recovery strategies.
    • Collaborate with the performance, nutrition and medical teams to integrate individualized recovery plans into daily training schedules.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Coordinate and manage contracted outside practitioners, including but not limited to LMT’s, stretch therapists, pilates and yoga instructors. This includes staffing, payroll management and player scheduling.
    • Work closely with strength and conditioning coaches, athletic trainers, physical therapists, performance nutrition and sports scientists to align recovery efforts with training loads and performance goals.
    • Maintain detailed documentation of player treatments, progress, and response to interventions.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Licensed professional in a relevant discipline (ATC, DPT, LMT, DC). Must be eligible for Ohio State Licensure.
  • Experience working in elite or professional sport, preferably in football or other high-impact sports.
  • Strong background in manual therapy, movement assessment, and recovery science.
  • Familiarity with sports technology and recovery modalities (e.g., HRV monitoring, thermotherapy, cryotherapy).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to educate and engage athletes.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel as required by the team schedule.
