Position Overview

The Manager of Government Programs is a leadership position with broad responsibility across the organization driving and executing government programs. This role will be responsible to identify, plan, and execute projects associated with government agencies, foundations, corporations, and other funding sources. This individual will lead the work of creating and growing the organization’s involvement in government projects, including, but not limited to tax credits, training reimbursements, grants, and other funding projects that align with the organization’s strategic initiatives. This will include but will not be limited to defining and holding to project scope, meeting requirements, engaging in and leading cross functional and intradepartmental communication, schedule and issue tracking, risk management decisions and communication, and overall economics of the projects using a defined Project Management Process.

Areas of Focus

The Manager, Government Programs, serves as a liaison with the funding agencies and stays current with government incentives and opportunities in battery development and manufacturing. They cultivate and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate intelligence gathering and increase grant yield by ensuring the submission of high-quality grant proposals and management of key grant data.

Responsibilities

  • Develop applications to the local, state, and federal government and/or request for proposals, drafting compelling, high-quality grant proposals and applications that are ultimately successful, driving organizational growth and impact.
  • Prioritize, plan, and execute moderate to large projects, accounting for all aspects and deliverables necessary to achieve the projects’ objectives on time and within budget.
  • Establish an internal review process and lead the preparation and submission of monthly/quarterly/annual calculations, analyses, and reports in compliance with government requirements.
  • Works with the technical leads and the finance team to develop project budgets and budget justifications aligned with grant requirements and assist in monitoring fiscal and in-kind match commitments.
  • Serve as a group leader and be capable of highly effective communication and collaboration with highly skilled and diverse teams to make sound decisions and execute plans quickly and efficiently to preserve project performance metrics.
  • Coordinate the interaction and documentation processes between departments, customers, and organizational leaders to effectively manage multiple high impact, high visibility, and strategic cross-functional projects in parallel.
  • Create project-based communications (i.e., meeting minutes, project playbook, and project schedule) and distribute information as appropriate.
  • Set and continually manage project expectations, priorities, and urgency with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Personally, and proactively provide relevant and appropriate communication regarding project status and progress to management.
  • Proactively support leadership on other projects, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical, business, political science, engineering or other related field
  • Minimum of three years of project management experience and/or minimum of two years of experience with government projects (in private or public sectors); preference is given to individuals with demonstrated product development or manufacturing funding experience.
  • Understanding of grant application processes, regulations, and compliance to government requirements
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project).
  • Ability to travel as needed
