Job Description

This role is integrated within the technology department, working as a key member of the Systems & Software team that reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer, and provides the opportunity to learn and grow, through coaching and mentoring.

STS Defence typically undertakes solving challenges within the naval domain, for defence prime contractors, but also directly for MoD on a number of programmes linked to communications systems and development of specialist AI algorithms.

We work on projects at different levels of technical maturity across design/product life-cycles, providing exposure the full spectrum of technology readiness levels, including early concept R&D work conduced within the department.

As the department contributes to wider integrated system engineering projects teams within the company, this role requires a UK national able to attain the appropriate security clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, test and implementation of software which can be standalone, or forming a system element within a complex system
  • Work with subject matter experts on migrating early code designs including complex AI algorithms into fully integrated prototype code
  • Support the documentation of detailed software designs to relevant standards
  • Support testing of software on reference system environments, before adoption on operational systems
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders capturing and developing software system requirements for new projects

Experience And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant Computer, Physical Sciences or Engineering subject, obtained within the last three years
  • Aptitude in one or more of the following:
    • Matlab
    • Microsoft – C, C#, C++
    • O/S – Linux/Windows
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently against a project plan, but also able to work as part of a wider team with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Ability to think creatively to overcome challenges, with an aptitude for continuous improvement

Additional InformationSECURITY – All candidates must be in a position to obtain UK security clearance to SC level. Additional increased requirements may apply on certain defence programmes.
