Position currently qualifies for a telework option. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.

All veterinary services fall under the jurisdiction of the Veterinary Division. It has a very specific mission that focuses on providing animal disease programs designed to control, diagnose, and eradicate diseases in livestock and poultry. Most of these animal disease control programs are cooperative efforts with the United States Department of Agriculture, Animal Plant Health Inspection Service, Veterinary Services, and animal industry groups. The Veterinary Division also administers the North Carolina Animal Welfare Act.

The Veterinary Division Is Currently Comprised Of Three Sections

  • Animal Health Programs (AHP)
    • Poultry
    • Livestock
  • Diagnostic Laboratories
  • Animal Welfare Programs

Position will coordinate and provide administrative support to the Veterinary Division Director’s office to include: coordinating communications within organizational structure, processing biologics requests, purchasing through the NC E-Procurement system, use of and reconciling P-Cards, management of travel to include booking travel and submitting staff BDAs (Budget Division Authorization requests), travel reimbursements, motor fleet logs and invoicing, and provides support to the Administrative Officer, including BEACON/HR actions. Duties involve correspondence and processing reports as needed, answering the telephone, processing the phone bill, inventory tracking, dissemination of information, assistance with expense vouchers and travel logs, creation of safety reports, attending to surplus items, and other duties as assigned by supervisor.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills and the ability to think independently.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, etc.) particularly spreadsheet applications.
  • Skilled in effective oral and written communication techniques.
  • Ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling, proofreading and office terminology to compose and/or proofread correspondence, reports, and materials.
  • Ability to record, compile, summarize and to determine conclusions, actions or compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to analyze work situations and interpret program content in making decisions and explaining policies, regulations, and programs.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret program policy and procedural guidelines, to resolve programs and questions and to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Close attention is required for accurate data entry.

Management Preferences

  • Proficiency using BEACON SAP GUI, NCAS, E-Procurement, and familiarity with P-Card usage and policy.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

You may qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience, either through years of education or years of directly related experience, or a combination of both.

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
