Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Technician to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced professional services environment. The Accounting Technician will play a key role in supporting our clients by preparing financial statements, managing bookkeeping tasks, and assisting with tax compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to clients in maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable transactions.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports.
  • Prepare financial statements and corporate tax returns for Notice-to-Reader compilations for clients in various industries with straight forward to complex operations.
  • Prepare personal tax returns with complex revenue streams including rental income, self-employed business income, and large investment holdings including both Canadian and foreign.
  • Provide assistance to clients with payroll, source deductions and GST/HST compliance.
  • Ability to compile client’s information from client source documents such as bank statements, remittance vouchers, various receipts and disbursements to year-end financial statements.
  • Stay up to date with relevant accounting standards and tax regulations.

Education + Qualifications:

  • CPA designation (or working towards completion) preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years bookkeeping experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks, QuickBooks Online, Sage Simply Accounting and other accounting software.
  • Advanced knowledge of CaseWare, Caseview and Taxprep.
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel.
  • In-depth understanding of different types of investment activities and investment income including return of capital, reinvested dividends, non-cash distributions, etc.
  • Completion of files in a timely manners and strong time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills with both clients and staff.
  • Strong learning skills and ability to work independently.
  • Previous public accounting and tax preparation experience required.
