Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Instruct Microbiology and Anatomy and Physiology labs, ensuring curriculum integrity and academic rigor.
- Collaborate with faculty to design and enhance a variety of biology labs, contributing to course development.
- Oversee lab management, including the procurement and maintenance of equipment and supplies, while ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
- Provide microbial cultures and agar plates to facilitate lab activities.
- Hire and supervise work-study students, along with undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants.
- Manage budgets, process invoices, and maintain precise records for lab resources.
- Engage in departmental initiatives aimed at the recruitment and retention of undergraduate biology majors.
- Mentor students through senior thesis projects, guiding their academic growth.
- Participate in community outreach efforts to promote science education through events such as science fairs and campus tours.
Required Skills
- Strong organizational skills for the effective management of lab materials, equipment, and student engagement.
- Exceptional communication abilities, both written and verbal, to facilitate interaction with students, faculty, and the broader community.
Qualifications
- A B.S. degree in biological sciences, microbiology, physiology, or a closely related discipline.
- Relevant teaching experience at the high school or undergraduate university level is essential.
