About The Role

Purpose – why this role is important

The Coach Developer is a casual role dedicated to helping deliver AFL Tasmania’s coach and education program across the three football development regions.

The role is part of AFL Tasmania’s coaching support network in each region, to provide emerging coaches with support, mentoring and guidance in providing high quality coaching environments.

The role of the Coach Developer is to provide education and connect coaches to the library of resources available to Coaches in their designated area/region. The role also is charged with delivering Coach Development sessions with coaches at training and being a key contact point for queries and support when required from Coaches throughout the season.

The role aims to;

  • Provide professional coach education and support to all clubs and their coaches through Coaching Workshops and Coach Development delivery
  • Connect coaches with CoachAFL and guide them on how to access and utilise the platform to enhance their coaching.
  • Upskill and give opportunity for coaches to grow, better themselves and their knowledge on how to be the best coach they can be with regular one on one support and mentoring.
  • Allow clubs and coaches a direct point of call for coaching related queries and direct access into AFL Tasmania’s coaching expertise.

Day in the life – what you will be responsible for

  • The role is responsible for developing and mentoring junior and youth coaches within a specific region and area of Tasmania.
  • Each Mentor will meet with junior/youth coaches in their designated area prior to the commencement of the season.
  • The Coach Developer will provide information sessions and one on one support with junior and youth coaches. This will include a minimum of two in person sessions for each junior/youth coach and regular attendance of club training sessions to observe and advise coaches.
  • Regular communication and check-ins through digital platforms to ensure coaches are able to seek feedback and information where required.
  • Assist AFL Tasmania’s Coach Education team to identify Tier 1 Clubs who need greater support to deliver targeted Coach Education sessions.
  • Connect junior/youth coaches to the RookieME and CoachAFL platforms to utilise the suite of support tools and functionality.
  • Participation and support in AFL Tasmania’s Coach Education seminars and forums.
  • + other duties as directed

Must haves – what’s needed to help you be successful

  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Completed level 2 coaching accreditation or be intending to.
  • Ability to attend training on weeknight evenings
  • Sound knowledge of the football industry (or similar), particularly Tasmanian football.
  • Experience in presenting
