Your Role

The Product Manager role manages a strategic portfolio of non-branded food ingredients sold across the food and other sectors, ensuring a reliable and competitive supply to meet target market demands. The role also requires maintaining strong relationships with suppliers while identifying and capitalising on new market opportunities through collaborative efforts with supplier partners

Responsibilities

  • Conduct market analysis to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase market share.
  • Source ingredients in line with market demand and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manage costing models to ensure competitiveness and profitability.
  • Execute supplier approval processes and vendor rating evaluations.
  • Negotiate volumes, prices, and contracts within budgetary guidelines.
  • Increase business with exclusive suppliers through partnerships and strategic planning.
  • Develop and implement pricing strategies to balance market competitiveness and profitability.
  • Identify potential new suppliers and products for strategic growth.
  • Train the sales team on product features, benefits, and market positioning.
  • Provide sales forecasts and support procurement planning.
  • Optimise stock levels, manage slow-moving items, and address obsolete inventory.
  • Handle complaints and claims to ensure client satisfaction and compliance.
  • Compile and present reports to internal stakeholders and principals (suppliers).

Your Profile

Product Manager role is a dynamic professional with strong strategic thinking, supplier negotiation skills, and expertise in market strategy development, with a proven track record of driving profitability and operational efficiencies.

Skills

  • Familiarity with pricing strategies, costing models, vendor rating, supplier approval protocols and inventory optimisation.
  • SAP experiences advantageous
  • Ability to understand the complete commercial pipelines and resolve issues in area of responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of import / export, regulatory and logistics management.
  • Able to work effectively cross-functionally and with other business unit’s functional areas to achieve company-wide objectives

Experience

  • 5 – 7 years’ experience in a product management, marketing and sales function that includes managing complex and or significant customer relationships and key accounts (Food/Pharma/Chemical/Animal Nutrition industries),
  • Prior Food ingredient and Food commodity product management experience is preferred.
  • Experience in developing market strategies and identifying growth opportunities within the food or chemical distribution sector.

Education

  • Matric
  • Tertiary qualification in Food Science/Business Management, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • Postgraduate Qualification in Business, Marketing, or Supply Chain Management (advantageous).
