Mechatronics Engineering Employment Opportunity (Role)

IAG is seeking a highly motivated Mechatronics Engineer with a strong foundation in electrical engineering, control systems, automation, project management, and quality assurance. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with PLC programming, VSDs, low-voltage and control switchgear, commissioning, power distribution, and compliance with Australian and IEC standards.

Primary Functional Areas

  • Design, develop, and implement advanced mechatronic and electrical systems for industrial applications.
  • Work with PLC, Smarter Ctrl SCADA, VSDs, and embedded control systems to optimize industrial processes.
  • Develop low-voltage and control switchgear solutions for power distribution and automation.
  • Conduct commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of mechatronic systems.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IEC, and AS standards, as well as safety regulations.
  • Oversee project management tasks, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk assessment.
  • Perform cost analysis and procurement evaluation for electrical and automation components.

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Design and develop control systems, automation solutions, and electrical switchgear.
  • Create electrical and mechanical schematics, layouts, and specifications.
  • Program and integrate PLC, Smarter Ctrl SCADA, and industrial automation systems with a focus on energy efficiency.
  • Conduct factory acceptance tests (FAT), site installation, and commissioning for electrical and power distribution projects.
  • Lead quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) inspections to ensure high reliability and compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on electrical infrastructure, automation, and renewable energy projects.
  • Provide technical support and training to clients and internal teams on system functionality.
  • Develop testing protocols and standard operating procedures for electrical and automation equipment.
  • Research and implement emerging technologies in mechatronic and electrical engineering.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges in power distribution and automation systems.
  • Optimize sensor integration, robotics, and industrial automation processes.

Specific Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Design, manufacture, and implement electrical and automation control systems.
  • Conduct system integration, diagnostics, and troubleshooting for industrial applications.
  • Actively contribute to quality assurance and quality control systems and procedures, internal and external audits to maintain product reliability.
  • Analyze performance data and conduct cost-benefit evaluations to improve efficiency.
  • Ensure timely delivery of electrical and automation projects while adhering to budget constraints.
  • Create technical documentation, including specifications, datasheets, and compliance reports.
  • Manage procurement and technical evaluations for electrical and automation equipment.
  • Provide training and support to end users on automation system operation and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturers, and clients to optimize solutions.
  • Lead and supervise teams in project execution, quality control, and technical support.

Educational Qualifications, Experience & Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering (recognized in Australia).
  • Minimum 3 years of practical work experience in Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in PLC programming, Smarter Ctrl SCADA systems, VSDs, and industrial automation.
  • Expertise in low-voltage and control switchgear design, electrical reticulation, and power distribution.
  • Strong background in QA/QC procedures, regulatory compliance, and testing protocols.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Visio (Electra), and other electrical design software.
  • Extensive experience in project management, budgeting, scheduling, and cost analysis.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary projects and mentor junior engineers.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills with hands-on expertise.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and documentation skills.
  • Product knowledge of Industrial Automation Group Pty Ltd’s standard products such as standpipe controllers, lighting controllers, and parks and leisure water management solutions for the Australian city councils is preferred.
